Review – Superdrug Optimum Phytodeluxe Day & Night Creams

Optimum

All through November and December I’ve been trying to catch up with my blog posts as there has been so much going on that I never quite seem to be on top of things. All the while I’d been discovering and trialling some amazing products and adding them to the list of things I wanted to tell you about.

Then when I compiled my top ten posts of 2015 and my number one post was about Superdrug it hit me that I hadn’t yet told you about two amazing anti-ageing skincare products – the Superdrug Optimum Phytodeluxe Day Cream and the Superdrug Optimum Phytodeluxe Night Cream.

Both of these creams are aimed at mature skin and are indulgent containing potent ingredients to counteract the visible signs of ageing. I have to say I very rarely see any overt marketing for Superdrug’s own brand products and it seems to me that they’re missing a trick as the value of these products is exceptional.

The Superdrug Optimum Phytodeluxe Day Cream is part of the Optimum Skin Range. It contains Platinum Matrix-EM which combines platinum particles, a terapeptide and black diamond truffle to offer a rich, pampering experience. It’s said to make skin appear noticeably smoother, firmer and more luminous.

It ticks one of the main boxes for me for a day cream by having an SPF 15 and it feels comforting on the skin as well as being relatively lightweight and absorbing well. It comes in at £14.99 for a 50ml size here.

From the same range comes the Superdrug Optimum Phytodeluxe Night Cream again it combines platinum particles with black diamond truffle and a terapeptide but this time in a rich velvety cream. It still absorbs quicky but provides deep nourishment overnight. It’s aim to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin’s elasticity and firmness, and tone and moisturise is achieved by this non-greasy formula that also contains shea butter for softness and suppleness. It also comes in at £14.99 here but it’s currently included in a buy one get one free deal so it’s the perfect time to try them both out.

As as side note I should say that I’ve tried to ignore the marketing blurb that tells me that it will give me a younger appearance because they’re really great products (and of course this isn’t the only product or brand with these claims). Sure, if the creams iron out a wrinkle or two I might look fresher but I’m not really aiming to look young – just the best and healthiest looking I can.

As I’m writing this I’m remembering a quote I saw on Twitter yesterday where the question was ” Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?” and the answer came “No, I’m perfect!”. And that’s set me thinking – not that I’m perfect because nobody really is but that it might be time to start thinking that it’s ok to just be me and if a cream or a bit of make-up takes my look up a notch then great but I don’t need to be anyone else than me!
