You may remember if you follow me closely that I fell in love with a Clinique Primer that I got a sample of free with some Clinique purchases a while back. Well, it ran out and it was time to repurchase. But I was torn between paying £20 for the best primer I’d ever had or trying out the Boots version for £10.50 less £3.00 for the voucher that was nestling in my purse waiting to be spent. As you can see above I chose the Boots No7 Beautifully Matte Make Up Base. I read all the blurb when I got home and it definitely promised to do everything I wanted it too. Here what it they say:
“No7 Beautifully Matte Make up Base 40ml contains oil absorbing Biopol which helps minimise blemishes and blot away shine without blocking pores. This Matte base has light-reflecting particles which help disguise fine lines and flaws. This No7 make-up base contains Watermelon and Cucumber extracts to help soothe and cool your skin. Formulated to be non pore blocking. Hypo-allergenic. “
So early the next morning before work I tried it out on top of my moisturiser and then with my foundation on top and disaster! There were blobs of foundation sticking to the primer and the more I tried to rub it in the worse things got. I made the best of it and went to work. I was so disappointed that I’d chosen the cheaper option but wasn’t in a position to buy a replacement and so set about looking at reviews to see if I could find out if I was doing anything wrong.
Seems I was. I found some instructions on application that weren’t available with the product that said that I should apply a very thin layer of the make up base (and not a generous one as I usually do) and make sure it’s well worked in. So I gave it a go and guess what – it’s an amazing product! My make up looks flawless and it stays on all day. I’m so glad that I gave it another try. So Boots if you are listening – put a little more info on the packaging – because this little tube of cream is a winner!
