It’s about this time of year that I start to to think about using a lighter base. There are a few reasons for that, which include having a bit of a tan (that one hasn’t happened quite yet); warmer weather meaning that heavier foundation slides down my face if I don’t manage it carefully; and needing to ensure that I’ve got some SPF in there somewhere. There’s a lot of choice out there with BB Creams and tinted sun care products coming out with improved products all the time but this product focuses on hydration. It’s the Avène Hydrance Optimale hydrating skin tone perfecter. Broadly it falls into the tinted moisturiser category but it also sun protection and skin perfecting pigments.
It comes in two formulas, Rich and Light. Rich is for dehydrated, dry to very dry skin and Light which I tried, is for dehydrated normal to combination sensitive skin. It only comes in one shade – they say it’s subtly tinted to suit most skin complexions. For me that’s a big ask. When a shade can suit me or not depending on the time of year, I don’t really see that it can suit a huge range of skin tones. When applied to my hand it did appear a little too tan for me. On my face, and well blended it was ok but not my shade of choice. I suspect that Avene would consider that this met it’s healthy glow descriptor.
So the key aims of the product are to hydrate, provide a healthy glow and to perfect the complexion. It does this with:
- A combination of 2 active ingredients, Meibosérine and Lipomucine® which ensure the even diffusion of Avène Thermal Spring Water in the skin and prevent its evaporation.
- A combination of mineral pigments and illuminating pearlescent pigments to correct skin tone imperfections.
- Pre-tocopheryl, a powerful antioxidant to protect the skin from environmental aggressions and to prevents aging.
