I’ve done very few posts that aren’t beauty related but when I do them I usually get a good reaction. Still, when I thought about doing a book review I hadn’t really intended it to be this kind of book! One Year Wiser by Mike Medaglia is a colouring book!
You’ll know that adult colouring books have become popular recently but this isn’t just any colouring book. This is a colouring book to encourage mindfulness. There are 52 hand drawn illustrations by Mike Medaglia who is a Huffington Post blogger and a Zen Buddhist practitioner. He likes to focus on hope an positivity and the combination of the illustations with inspirational quotes makes this book stand out. Each illustration is designed for you to colour it with any medium you please (I chose Crayola because I’m a kid at heart!) and then to cut it out, pin it on the fridge or frame it – whatever you choose!
Here’s my first attempt featuring the Jack Kerouac quote “Life must be rich and full of loving – it’s no good otherwise, no good at all, for anyone”. I really enjoyed taking the time to colour in and have a bit of thinking time. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t perfect and I could allow myself to “go outside the lines”.
One Year Wiser: The Colouring Book is available in paperback rrp £8.99 here.
Mike Medaglia has also created One Year Wiser, a spiritually uplifting full-colour book of 365 daily meditations, which will be published by SelfMadeHero in September and more of Mike’s work can be found at: www.oneyearwiser.com
