Discovering Bio Extracts

When I come across a new brand I like to find out the story behind it, how it’s developed and well – the whole shebang really! And that’s just what I got when I was invited to dinner with Marina Shcherbinina the founder of the Bio Extracts brand.

Marina is passionate about her brand and dedicated to making each product the very best that it can be with no corner cutting on ingredients or quality. Highly purified ingredients derived from plant extracts are used to deliver skin benefits in this unique skincare brand.

There are two elements to the system:

BIO-EXTRACTS CREAMS use a Multi-Lamellar System that has a structural similarity to the natural layers of the skin. It’s designed to act as a “patch” on the skin that restores its barrier function, prevents water-loss and protects skin.

BIO-EXTRACTS BOOSTERS use a phospholipids-based delivery system to ensure actives penetrate deeper into the skin layers. (Phospholipids are essential constituents of the cellular membranes of all living organisms, they regulate cell life).

The combination of these two elements enables you to create a bespoke solution whatever your skin type or concern. The packaging looks great but more than that it’s really functional. The cream comes in an airless jar format and the boosters are contained in syringes. This means it’s easy to get just the right amount of cream and booster for the combination you need. It has a subtle uplifting fragrance that adds to the experience. The products aren’t greasy and they sink in quickly and feel cooling as they’re applied.

There are 3 creams and 9 boosters to choose from. For my skin type my prescription was:

RICH CREAM –  for intense, long-lasting moisturisation that’s ultra-rich without being heavy.

FIRMING BOOST – an intensive treatment for mature skin with a combination of phytosteroids from Maral Root and derivatives of Wild Jujube seeds to tighten and tone the look of the skin.

HYDRO BOOST – intense hydration with botanical Hyaluronic Acid to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and to prevent further signs of premature ageing.

GLOW BOOST – an intensive skin illuminating serum that illuminates the complexion by improving skin colour and texture. Ingredients include Wu-Zhu-Yu fruit extract to oxygenate the for a healthy glow.

I like to use the the hydro boost at night and either or both of the firming and glow boost at night for the best results.

If you’re thinking that this might be the skin care system for you then there are sets that you can buy that come with a cream and 2, 3 or 4 boosters and even sample sets for just £5!

Oh and in case you wondered the brand is, vegan, paraben free, non GMO, British made, not tested on animals and all ingredients are natural.
