Empties – October 2014

Leader Bare Bar

As I sit down to start drafting this month’s empties post there are 3 disparate items in a little huddle next to my laptop begging to be included in my empties. Each is interesting in their own right but which to write about first. Well, I guess the most remarkable of the three is the Leader Bare Bar in orange and raw cocoa flavour. the reason it’s remarkable is that it isn’t strictly a beauty product but it sneaked in as it’s healthy and also it’s stocked by one of our leading beauty retailers – Superdrug.

Orange raw cocoa bar 40 g

I’m not the healthiest of eaters but I enjoyed both of the flavours that I tried. The bars are quite dense and very filling. Here’s the blurb for the health conscious among you. I really should think about this more – they say beauty comes from within don’t they?

“Completely plant-based BareBar –product line contains 11 great tasting flavours! Dates are the base ingredient of BareBar`s providing a good source of energy and carbohydrates. Dates contain also lots of fibre, more potassium than a banana as well as calcium, iron, phosphorus and vitamins A, D, B1 and B2. Dates, berries, fruits and seeds are smooshed and raw cold-pressed into convenient small bars. This makes BareBar`s a healthy and nutritious snack compared to traditional snack products and sweets. BareBars are manufactured in Finland, in Leader`s own factories. Bars do not contain any additives or animal-derived ingredients and are also free from lactose and gluten.”

They cost £1.29 here.

Orogold 24 Carat Deep Day Moisturiser Cream

Orogold moisturiser

You might have heard about how I got my sample of this Orogold 24 Carat Deep Day Moisturiser Cream when I told you about my day shopping on the Kings Road here. I must say I really enjoyed the experience although I know that others have reported that they weren’t happy with what they consider to be hard selling techniques. Of course, they tried to sell me products – that’s what salesmen are for and I do have free will and a tight budget. So when I had to decline the offers that were available on the day I was treated with politeness and respect.

I tried this moisturiser on the day on my hand. It seemed fine but the true measure for me is what does it feel like on my face and how does it work alongside my other skin care and beauty products. The product smells lovely, it’s only slightly scented but it smells like a garden in the summer, warm and heady. It glides on like a dream and then sinks into the skin and disappears. Edi, the promoter, explained to me that it’s important that you exfoliate regularly as a build up of dead skin cells can prevent absorption of your skin care. I hadn’t really thought about this before and he demonstrated this on my arm by exfoliating a patch of skin and then applying the moisturiser to prepared and unprepared skin. The difference was very clear.

I layered the moisturizer between my serum and primer and found that they complimented each other well with no contra-indications. Of course, using the same brand is always recommended but this luxury brand is way out of my reach. It looks gorgeous but at £128.00 for 53g here it needs to be.

Grace Cole Warm Vanilla & Fig Smoothing Body Lotion

This beauty came as part of a set that I bought at sale price back in June. You can read the full review here. It was a lovely soothing lotion with a lovely warm fragrance. You can buy it here for £12.00

Vichy Normaderm Global Anti-imperfection Hydrating Care

Vich Products (3)

I’ve reviewed the Vichy Normaderm Global Anti-imperfection Hydrating Care along with the rest of the Normaderm range here. It’s a lovely moisturiser which fit well into my skin care routine along with serum, and primer to form a perfect base for the day. You can buy it here for £9.00 right now.

Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash

balance me goodie bag (2)

I got this Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash back in July and I can’t believe that I haven’t reviewed it before now. I’m so sad that this has finally run out. I say finally because this has lasted and lasted. This clear gel turns into the richest most luxurious foam and you really only need a tiny bit to be able to wash your whole body.

They say:

“Energise tired skin with Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash. This spa-inspired blend of natural ingredients has been formulated to soften, smooth and improve skin tone whilst encouraging good circulation. The gentle mix of juniper, bergamot, geranium and lavender make this body wash kind enough to be used on even sensitive skin types, whilst releasing an uplifting scent to stimulate your senses.”

If you feel like treating yourself then this is where you need to look!

That’s it for October – not too many products finished all the way to the end. I’ll try harder for November.

Hope you like to read these empties post. Do tell me what you like and don’t like about what I write.

Thanks

Hazel
