Under the Influence

I’ve always thought of myself as a bit different from your average beauty blogger. Aside from the obvious age difference (most bloggers are 30-40 years younger than me!) I’ve never bought products “for the blog” or to complete a collection or bought something just because someone else says I should. My normal rules are that if something runs out I replace it with the best I can afford and occasionally I buy myself a treat. So it’s a bit complicated to explain why I ended up buying 3 make-up items  in Boots the other lunch time when I went out to buy shampoo and cotton wool pads.

I don’t really want to apportion blame for what happened but I think I have to on this occasion – it’s Kal @ClutteredC with a bit of help from Boots and their 3 for 2 offers!

So, I went into Boots to buy the cotton wool and shampoo and remembered that I had a voucher for £2 off if you buy 2 Sleek products. I needed to replace my Sleek Eyebrow StylistEyebrow Stylist which I’ve reviewed previously hereI found the stand and was drawn to the Sleek Highlighting Palette – Precious Metals which was at eye level. I struggled to apply the rules – had I run out of highlighter – no. I kept thinking how lovely it had looked on Kal’s blog, I’m a sucker for shiny things and I thought about how the metallics might look on my eyes. Precious Metals2I deliberately chose to ignore the fact that older skin isn’t flattered by shimmer. I wanted it and I thought – there that’s me done with my two purchases and I’d have “saved” £2. But then I remembered that I’d seen the 3 for 2 sign on the way into Boots.  I could “save” even more if I bought one more thing. I’d been planning on saving to buy a NARS concealer so decided that buying a cheaper brand would save me more and so I selected the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer.Concealer

I paid up and left  before realising that I hadn’t bought the cotton wool, the shampoo or my lunch! Verdict I’m extremely  vulnerable to being influenced by bloggers (yes I mean you Kal!) and  Boots marketing techniques.

I went off to M&S for lunch stopping in the beauty section for cotton wool and shampoo…. but that’s a whole other story about impulse buying!

Are you easily influenced? Share your stories with me below. Oh and I’ll review the palette and concealer another day and see if I can influence you too!
