How I Discovered Lancôme Énergie de Vie Liquid Moisturiser

I wanted to tell you about the Lancome Energie de Vie Liquid Moisturiser – and I’ll do that in a bit but first I wanted to tell you something about the kind of beauty blogger that I am. I started out knowing what I like and sharing that with friends and anyone who would listen. Then when I started blogging I did the same and but in writing and over time that’s become more than just a few people. But you know what? I still don’t know much about how products work, or which of them are the best, I just write about my own experience. I’ve taken some criticism from one or two of you that I’m not a skin care expert or a trained make up artist – but I figure that’s ok because all I ever write is what happened to me – what I saw, what I felt, what I read and I think it works well enough.

So, all of that preamble is really to set the scene for when I went shopping for a new serum. I had in mind that I wanted something with Vitamin C in it. I’ve learnt that much  – that my skin loves Vitamin C and feels revitalised when I use it. I also had at the back of my mind that Clinique have a newish Vitamin C product that I might try – Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster With Pure Vitamin C . So with a gift card in hand (a leaving present from my old team) I headed to House of Fraser.

There was a Clarins gift with purchase offer going on and I wondered if they had anything in their range that I might like. I couldn’t see anything obvious and there wasn’t an assistant to help so I headed to the Clinique products to locate their vitamin C product. I found it on the shelf, but the tester was empty or I didn’t know how to use it and there wasn’t anyone to help. That’s when the Lancome Energie de Vie Liquid Moisturiser caught my eye. It’s so pretty and stands out because of the lime green bottle.

So this time I figured I was in luck as there was an assistant there and I explained that I was looking for a serum and that Energie de Vie had caught my eye and I wondered if it contained Vitamin C. But this is where things went a bit wrong because she just didn’t know. She wanted to help and started to read the back of the box out to tell me the ingredients. There are some great things in there – believe me – such as Goji Berry and Lemon Balm Oil – and they sound like they have Vitamin C don’t they? Well she didn’t know. She also didn’t know or at least didn’t explain to me that this isn’t a serum – although it looks like one – and I use it like one – but wait I’m jumping ahead here so more of that later. She could have told me that this is a product that recharges your skin and is an innovative liquid moisturiser  designed to refresh tired looking skin. So, not a serum but designed to give the effect I need. It’s designed to energise and hydrate skin to make it look healthier. It’s inspired by Korean beauty technology, and we all love a bit of that vibe don’t we! The liquid melts into the skin and it’s oil free so it’s a great base for make-up.

Still as you can see, I bought it anyway. I googled it at the counter and saw that people were saying good things and decided for myself. So my point is that after 4 years of blogging, of trying out oceans of skin care products, I still have to take a punt on a product now and then. And those people who work for brands and are paid and trained to know products – don’t necessarily know any better than I do.

So where am I now with this “serum”? Well I love it – I use it at serum stage under my regular moisturiser which happens to be Caudalie in the day and Cult 51 at night right now and it works a dream. So, I don’t care if experts say that I should use serum and then moisturiser. If I want to use no serum and then a liquid moisturiser and then a cream moisturiser I will. It’s about getting to know your skin, and doing what feels right without worrying too much about what “they” say. Who are “they” anyway?

Do you follow beauty rules? Or do you just do what feels right? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Everybody’s skin is different and what works for one does not necessarily mean it will work for all. I am a trained/qualified beauty therapist but readily admit that there is so much I don’t know. I do love Lancôme products though xx

  2. I have a few Lancome products on my to try list, will add this one now! I go with whatever takes my fancy. I worked in Dermatology as a qualified nurse for years, I know how skin works, but to be honest I’ve read some really dodgy descriptions from people who claim to be qualified. Anyway this sounds lovely!
