Akar Skin – Tibetan Inspired Beauty

Things aren’t always simple. Things aren’t always black and white. But this time they are – well ok there’s a little hint of gold on the packaging but what isn’t improved by a touch of gold? What am I going on about? Well, today I’m talking about Akar Skin.

When  I got an e-mail asking me if I’d like to review something from the Akar skincare range I looked across the room at all the skincare products I own and all the products I’ve got ready to review and was about to politely decline – I’ve only got one face after all!. Still I’m always curious to discover new products so I thought I’d just take a quick look at the website  to check that I wasn’t missing out on anything and bam! I was hooked in right away – mainly by how chic and minimalistic the brand look was at first and then by the whole concept. So instead of saying no I responded with an enthusiastic yes please! Now I’ve been using the products for 3 weeks I’m ready to tell you what I thought.

Akar means white crystal in Tibetan – white crystal is a symbol of purity which matches Akar’s desire to create potent products that are pure and 100% natural. Their inspiration is from the Tibetan plateau where, free from pollution at high altitudes botanicals are found in their purest form. Akar sources high-grade natural ingredients that are organic, wild-harvested or from the Tibetan plateau. There’s no water or filler of any sort used.

desert-rescue-oil

Desert Rescue Face Oil 30ml £65.42

Ingredients: Baobab Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Goji Seed Oil, Almond Oil, Seabuckthorn Fruit Extract, Rosehip Seed Extract, Orange Peel Oil, Frankincense Oil, Sandalwood Oil, Myrrh Oil, Sunflower Seed oil, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Limonene, Linalool

Baobab oil is high in oleic acid which helps to seal in moisture. It’s also high in antioxidants and vitamins A, D & E. Jojoba oil is similar to the sebum produced by the skin so this enable rapid absorption. The  plant extracts are chosen to soothe, heal and aid anti-aging.

It smells absolutely gorgeous and is so comforting on the skin and feels luxurious. This is aimed at dry or normal skin. My skin is combination and so I used this at night rather than under makeup during the day. That may be different if you have drier skin and depending on the climate or time of year.

lip-butte

Mini Care Lip Butter 7ml £16.35

Ingredients: Castor) Seed Oil,  Almond Oil, Beeswax, Baobab Seed Oil, Goji Seed Oil, Seabuckthorn Fruit Extract, Rosehip Seed Extract, Orange Peel Oil, Rose Flower Oil, Sunflower Seed oil, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Limonene, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool, Eugenol, Citral

This is for hydrating dry lips. It’s a refreshing whip of soothing oils and extracts that are nutrient-rich aimed at smoothing lines and keeping your lips soft, supple and glossy. Again I use this at night rather than using it under lipstick but keep meaning to pop it in my bag for those moments when you just need a little more moisture during the day. The cold wind and harsh weather won’t be damaging my pout anytime soon!

I love that all the products are formulated and manufactured in-house to ensure freshness and quality. They’ve got just a small product range which means that they can really focus on getting things right.

I’ve also noticed that they offer sample packages which means you get to try the products before you invest as well as travel/gift sets which are just perfect!
